About me

Hi I'm Weichan Wang

I am from Beijing China and I graduated from SVA, School of Visual Arts, for Fine arts, before I transfer to SVA, I went to China Central Academy of Fine Arts in beijing, for my freshmen year, Illustration major. After I graduation in Spring 2015, I started work in NYC and I did lots of jobs, I was worked for fashion studio doing fashioin illustration; I was worked for art gallery as gallery assistant; I was worked for a private school and taught 4-18years students about how to paint and draw.

         Family Environment—an Interest-inspiring Trigger
Born into a teacher’s family and study four years at NYC, my interest in art education has been strongly cultivated. Over a half of my family members have devoted themselves to the education career in Shanghai, China. They work in different parts of the education, but their enthusiasm for the career of education influences me profoundly.
Campus Life—a Fulfilling Experience
Before I went to SVA, I was studying at China Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. After I had started study at School Of Visual Arts, I told myself earning credits is not my priority goal.Instead, the most important thing for me is to deeply understand the concepts of art. especially in my country China, because many art colleges there are still more focusing on art technique skills enhancement compared to design class. I had a deeper understanding about some art concepts during my undergraduate program at SVA. One of my professors at SVA taught me about how to interpret and make contemporary artworks, and how to think like an artist, instead of holding a self-identity as a woman doing art-related works. During the years I study at SVA, I reflected and compared between eastern and western art education systems and ideologies through my self-learning notes and conversations with professors, I was quite impressive and appreciated about American art world, because it has many differences in art teaching pedagogies and philosophies compared to China.

Teaching Intern—Working Experiences
I work as a teaching assistant almost during every winter and summer vacation, and I work at International Foundation Course, China Central Academy of Fine Arts.More importantly, I feel so lucky to have different types of students from 5 years old to 15 years old, who inspired and enlightened me to get more ideas of my artwork. With interaction and communication with a young child, I learned a lot about art, she/he also makes me realize that there is some special connection between teachers and students. All these learning and working experience encourages me to hold the belief to take education as my career. I am blessed from what I am doing as a teacher every day because all of my students love my class, and they loving doing art projects with me. My students reminds me my childhood. They are very cute and enthusiastic in art. They listen to me very carefully and try their best to learn how to draw and paint. I am not only teach them how to draw or paint, but also showing me a lot of artist works and try to foster their understanding about an art.
From Beijing to New York—A Dream Chaser
When I was studying at School Of Visual Arts major in Fine Arts. this was my first time go aboard. Before I go aboard, I was training for traditional art for eight years, in my country, where more focusing on technique skills. But after I came to the U.S., I learned a lot and changed a lot. I am not only focused on how to improve my drawing and painting skills like before but also started to understand more about the US.Ideologies of arts After I study at SVA, I did lots of my artworks, most of my artworks is about my dreams night, I started to record all of my dreams science 2008, I did lots of dream artworks.I hope, one day when I become to a art teacher, I can bring my students based on their night dreams to do more artworks, also I think night dreams should not have any logic thinking or logic way to express it, it is not a math formulation, for my first senior semester at SVA I did lots of research about Freud's theory and based on that I did my night dreams artwork, but the second semester, I felt like he is too rational and I am not very agree with his theory, so I made a new way to do my artworks, it is really emotional way to do my artworks and by spontaneously. That's why I want to explore a night dreams topic in my future teaching.

Lastly, I am lack of experience with new media, But I am very interested about new media and new form, I really like to know more and more art forms to do my artworks or find out a new way for teaching in the future.
