Connection to A Personal Learning Objective

'Social influences are also essential in shaping how we use new media, with whom, and for what purposes. Relationship stage is a factor: early in relationships, we stick to the media in which we started. As relationships progress, we expand into others. Personality styles matter. Shy and anxious people may prefer online media, while those who are sociable to begin with may gravitate towards any medium that allows more opportunities to interact with others. Culture matters. 'From Personal Connections in the Digital Age NANCY K. BAYM

I agree about Baym's idea, I feel like people are very sick to the media, right now, because people are always look at their phones in everywhere, sometimes, there are no messages or emails, people just like to look at their phones by no reasons. Also one very interesting thing is this summer over half of the world people are starting playing Pokemon Go, include myself, I know it is not real, but when you play it, it was so fun and also Pokemon is one of my favorite animation when I was little. Also I think 'like' button is a very good design, a lot of shy person like me, prefer to click that and I think this is better than saying something to somebody.

One connection:  7.Why people like using media and social media, is that really helpful in our life?

Baym answered my question in some way, but not very exactly,I was did a performance art during my Junior studied at School Of Visual Arts, I gathered around 25 people at union square and I asked them to hand in hand, then made a big circle, I asked them to doing something in the center of the circle, because I want them to have 30 minutes without their phone and relax, think about something, also I want to see how many people will involved with us, unfortunately, there are one person interested about this and she lead us did some Yoga. After this, I feel like NewYorker are very busy for their own life, they don't care about what happened around them, they just looked up their phones and walk fast away.

here is my performance art video.

Digital Painting

I got my new ipad and ipad pencil this week, I was so exciting about doing this digital painting works, this is my first time used this ipad pencil and I was doing around 3-4 photoshop by using my computer.
This week I used my ipad and ipad pencil did those four works by Photoshop app for ipad, it was so fun, because when I paint something on my ipad, it just like a real paper and using a pencil to do a artwork, everything is so real and it is better than wacom.
The first one is self-portrait and I did this without undo and ereaser. The Second and third one is just practice and the last one named 'where',I did two paintings, then I made it to gif animation, I really enjoyed about this experiences and I would like to do more digital works from now on.

On/off experiment, part2

Artistic response

In an artistic way, I don't think this is a good idea, especially for an artist, because we are live in 21 centres, this is not protolithic, the modern life is to break the traditional concept and build up more new things, like our class New Media and New Form, the reason why people start to break the traditional art is because of Marcel Duchamp, he made an artwork named Fountain, this is trying to  break the traditional art, so I think people cannot live without technology and this is helping us to know more peoples and get more information immediately.
Also like the Jazz age, I think people will never satisfy with life, in different age will worry about different things, so I think it is hard to distinguish it is good or not.Image result for jazz age

On/off experiment, part1

After I finish task1, turn off my computer and all of  my devices. I was wondering to go out check apple store because iPhone 7 is released on today, wait for a minute! I just realized I am doing a task without devices, then I think I can not walk to an apple store, I just sit and think about what I can do? So I start to do Chinese calligraphy, first I think all the world is so peace right now and I am kind of enjoy this feeling because I never try to do this before, then I think it is little quiet, I was trying to open my radio, but I realized that is device, I can not use is, so what should I do, If I need some music? Then I start to singing by myself, but I am not very like singing so I stop it.I just felt that is so bad with our devices but  overall,I think it is a good experience. But if ask me to live like that for rest of my life,I think I will feel very bad.

Three quotes from Eetiquette

This is really true, I remembered that when I first time using email, I was wrote a very long email and I only got a short reseponse from other person, he/she told me that I wrote a long email and it is hard to answer, they asked me to write a new one and more briefly, at that time I realized that email should be write bried and to the point, don't write a essay, because it will take your and their times, also it is not a good conversation.

I really agree about this, I think sometimes, you sharing your works it is ok, but if you are too arrogant to show off with you photos, that is not a good sign, it will let people far away with you.

I thinkn this is a really good ideas, because I feel like nowadays people spend too much times on social media, the only thing they like to do is tag a lot of boring things at inta or facebook, people should be walk out to enjoy our life, not speding time with your phone or computer, any medias.

Response to Program or to be Programed

Chapter 1

Doglass Rushkoff, he mentioned in chapter 1, he said 'After reading everyones responses, you would then decide whether you wanted to add somethingand either compose it on the spot, or write the response offline and then come back and paste it in later or even the next day'. It is so true, email provides us more and more time to deeply think about what we want to response or what kind of words should be write down in the email, you can take a long day to think about that, I think this is really good for us, especially for me, because I am a shy girl and sometimes I need take little more time to close up with someone. Because of that it reminds me about one App named Wechat, it is from my country China, this is really popular in my country, it little bit like Line, but not very, you can send voice mail and wait for your friend to give you response, sometimes if you do not know what to say, you can keep the message and think about it for a day or the next day. The most important thing is you can link with you bank and when you go shopping you can just show your QR code, they just scan it, then you pay for the goods, even you can use Wechat to buy some products in a small market, in my opinion, technology world provide us more and more convinces.

He also said "Cell phone users now complain of phantom vibration syndrome, the sensation of a cell phone vibrating on your thigh, even though theres no phone in your pocket." In my view, I think this is a very bad thing for human life, one side cell phone brings lots of convinces to us, the other side it also brings some bad effect, like you feel it vibrating but actually nothing there, this is not good for human life and health, just like if we spend much more time on watching TV or using computer, it is bad for our eyes.

Chapter 2

It is so true, net world indeed create a relationship with strangers, he mentioned 'But for students and a school who have already spent the time, money, and energy to get to a real classroom at a real college, why throw all that away for video game version of engagement?' In my view, I guess those students like playing video game, because they has psychological illness, during my BFA study, I took a class named Abnormal Psychology, it described that why some people spent much more time on video games, because they are afraid of making friend and talking to others that's why they spent time with themselves.

NYU ITP Program

Interactive telecommunication program is a really interesting and fantastic program at Tisch school of Art,NYU. ITP provide a creative environment at the intersection of art and technology. This department is trying to explore and create new forms of communication and express using interactive multimedia technologies.

The first time I knew about this was last year, I went to ITP open studio. They all doing very fantastic works, some are focus on programming or sounds interactive or about music learning, video and virtual reality.one of the work I really like it, it named Beat Boxing, this designer got some inspired by connections between boxing and music, he followed the rhythm, patterns and combos, crescendeo and plain parts to do his work, so when you wear the boxing glove, you can do lots of boxing gestures, every single jab, hook, uppercut the user is making will generate the beats and visual effect accordingly, also you can based on thoes boxing gestures to make your own music.
In my opinion, it is very interesting program and people can learn more from that, also can create more and more new media arts.

Artist Joshua Davis

I looked up online, I really like Joshua's artworks and he was born June 13, 1971,is an American Designer, technologist, author and artist in new media. He is really famous and well know artist. He is live in NYC right now.In 2001, he was winner of the Prix Art Electronic. Also he had a role in designing the visualization of IBM's Watson, you can find his work in Cooper Hewitt Design Museum.
Most of his work is about programming graphic, he is really good at technology art, for me I think he is using an logic way to doing his artwork. The reason why I like his work because it is very motion graphic style and he like to made programming and based on that he will combined some traditional work in it, like painting, for instance you paint something on your computer and based on his programming it will built up some new images automatically,It not only shows images and videos, it also has some interactive with audience. One of his work I really like, which named Eating Hooks, its horizontally mirrored video work,he  made dynamic layers as can penetrates the central mesh frequently,he also like strength the light to be very dramatically which means he likes made the light with the beat.

About me

Hi I'm Weichan Wang

I am from Beijing China and I graduated from SVA, School of Visual Arts, for Fine arts, before I transfer to SVA, I went to China Central Academy of Fine Arts in beijing, for my freshmen year, Illustration major. After I graduation in Spring 2015, I started work in NYC and I did lots of jobs, I was worked for fashion studio doing fashioin illustration; I was worked for art gallery as gallery assistant; I was worked for a private school and taught 4-18years students about how to paint and draw.

         Family Environment—an Interest-inspiring Trigger
Born into a teacher’s family and study four years at NYC, my interest in art education has been strongly cultivated. Over a half of my family members have devoted themselves to the education career in Shanghai, China. They work in different parts of the education, but their enthusiasm for the career of education influences me profoundly.
Campus Life—a Fulfilling Experience
Before I went to SVA, I was studying at China Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. After I had started study at School Of Visual Arts, I told myself earning credits is not my priority goal.Instead, the most important thing for me is to deeply understand the concepts of art. especially in my country China, because many art colleges there are still more focusing on art technique skills enhancement compared to design class. I had a deeper understanding about some art concepts during my undergraduate program at SVA. One of my professors at SVA taught me about how to interpret and make contemporary artworks, and how to think like an artist, instead of holding a self-identity as a woman doing art-related works. During the years I study at SVA, I reflected and compared between eastern and western art education systems and ideologies through my self-learning notes and conversations with professors, I was quite impressive and appreciated about American art world, because it has many differences in art teaching pedagogies and philosophies compared to China.

Teaching Intern—Working Experiences
I work as a teaching assistant almost during every winter and summer vacation, and I work at International Foundation Course, China Central Academy of Fine Arts.More importantly, I feel so lucky to have different types of students from 5 years old to 15 years old, who inspired and enlightened me to get more ideas of my artwork. With interaction and communication with a young child, I learned a lot about art, she/he also makes me realize that there is some special connection between teachers and students. All these learning and working experience encourages me to hold the belief to take education as my career. I am blessed from what I am doing as a teacher every day because all of my students love my class, and they loving doing art projects with me. My students reminds me my childhood. They are very cute and enthusiastic in art. They listen to me very carefully and try their best to learn how to draw and paint. I am not only teach them how to draw or paint, but also showing me a lot of artist works and try to foster their understanding about an art.
From Beijing to New York—A Dream Chaser
When I was studying at School Of Visual Arts major in Fine Arts. this was my first time go aboard. Before I go aboard, I was training for traditional art for eight years, in my country, where more focusing on technique skills. But after I came to the U.S., I learned a lot and changed a lot. I am not only focused on how to improve my drawing and painting skills like before but also started to understand more about the US.Ideologies of arts After I study at SVA, I did lots of my artworks, most of my artworks is about my dreams night, I started to record all of my dreams science 2008, I did lots of dream artworks.I hope, one day when I become to a art teacher, I can bring my students based on their night dreams to do more artworks, also I think night dreams should not have any logic thinking or logic way to express it, it is not a math formulation, for my first senior semester at SVA I did lots of research about Freud's theory and based on that I did my night dreams artwork, but the second semester, I felt like he is too rational and I am not very agree with his theory, so I made a new way to do my artworks, it is really emotional way to do my artworks and by spontaneously. That's why I want to explore a night dreams topic in my future teaching.

Lastly, I am lack of experience with new media, But I am very interested about new media and new form, I really like to know more and more art forms to do my artworks or find out a new way for teaching in the future.
